provides the community with a unique identity, civic pride and thought provoking cultural landmarks, as
well as a sense of community cohesion."

In 1986, the Rockland County Legislature passed a law, sponsored by Legislators Harriet Cornell and Bruce Levine, which states that 1% of the first $15 million dollars of bonded County capital projects will be allocated for art. Rockland County's Percent for Art Law was the first of its kind in the state outside of New York City.
Since its adoption, AIPP has been dedicated to including artwork by artists who reside and work in Rockland County as well as the work of accomplished artists beyond our borders.
Today, a committee of eleven knowledgeable volunteers from the community runs the AIPP program and oversees the commission, selection and placement of artworks. Projects include the commissioning of new works, and the preservation and restoration of existing public artwork.
